Job Purpose:

The key objective of this role is to ensure effective, robust and proactive management of Comm. Cards Interchange Settlement Operations globally and operate as a point person for APAC clusters, apart from leading the Commercial Cards India CSC team.

Job Background/context: -

Treasury and Trade Services (TTS) offer industry-leading Cash Management & Trade solutions to multi-national corporations, financial institutions and public sectors globally. Commercial Cards is a rapidly growing product in the TTS suite of products. The Commercial Cards business caters to over 1,000 corporate clients across 65 markets globally.

The role reports into the Commercial Cards Global head of Core Operations and a key member of Global Comm. Cards Core operations management defining strategy, driving efficiency managing risk robustly. This role is based in Chennai. 


The Operations Lead is a strategic professional, who stays abreast of developments within own field and contributes to directional strategy by considering their application in own job and the business. Recognized technical authority for an area within the business. Requires basic commercial awareness. There are typically multiple people within the business that provide the same level of subject matter expertise. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers. Significant impact on the area through complex deliverables. Provides advice and counsel related to the technology or operations of the business. Work impacts an entire area, which eventually affects the overall performance and effectiveness of the sub-function/job family.

It has responsibilities that will necessitate excellent collaboration with team members across all global Cards Operations sites, involving direct and matrix management of activities.

Commercial Cards rely on a sophisticated array of vendor arrangements in order to fulfil our end-to-end processes on behalf of Citi clients.  The third parties range from suppliers for Card/PIN/statement physical production and dispatch, to major Front Office and Back Office third party partnership and support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and be accountable for the Commercial Cards Interchange Settlement & Reconciliation function globally, apart from being responsible for Comm. Cards Ops resources in India CSC and escalation point for APAC cluters.
  • Ensure the development and execution both of strategy and goal achievement within that strategy.
  • Drive the Operations group forward within a Target Operating Model framework.
  • Contribute towards and support the development of the Global framework and an operating model that is consistent across the regions.
  • Lead the Interchange Settlement & Recon Operations group across locations globally where resourcing is present.
  • Manage Interchange Settlement & Recon Operations group expenses, and deliver on agreed cost reengineering goals. Responsible for departmental financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, monthly financials, accrual management and invoicing.
  • Have organisation responsibility, including both Direct and outsourced resourcing.
  • Empower and mobilise the organisation through leading the group with clarity of vision, purpose and actions, enhancing employee engagement, and Talent Development. Drive goal setting and development as well as performance assessment.
  • Drive and manage Operational projects and initiatives for the function responsible globally working closely with stakeholders to delivery industry leading metrics and efficiency and deliver best-in-class Service.
  • Be client-facing as appropriate, representing the business and Citi to best effect.
  • Oversee MCA for functions and ensure flawless adherence to controls.
  • Ensuring effective measures and metrics are in-place to monitor operational performance (KPIs, KRI’s, TATs) and work across the matrix to address and resolve issues and gaps.
  • Input into client RFP’s to support new business opportunities, helping to define servicing and processing configuration to incorporate and cost such tender processes
  • Work with vendor management to align processes and controls and share best practices
  • Association and regulatory reporting.
  • Ensure the delivery of Operations on behalf of the business to targeted performance levels
  • Liaise with Global functions as appropriate to ensure that Interchange Settlement & Recon function achieves optimum outcomes, within a framework that allows for consistency across the regions.
  • Drive process and operational improvements, creating an environment that continually enhances the business
  • Ensure a robust Controls framework exists and effectively functions in the group, to protect Citi and its clients.
  • Carrying out a leading role in executing work to achieve Controls objectives, ensuring a range of activities to be successfully implemented (e.g. MCA, Internal Audit, Regulatory and compliance requirements)
  • Be an effective member of the Global Commercial Cards Core Operations Management Team.
  • Builds and maintains effective relationships with colleagues, management, internal/external clients and stakeholders. facilitates and enables change
  • Persuades and influences colleagues, management, clients and stakeholders through excellent communication, interpersonal and diplomacy skills
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Excellent middle-management (at a minimum) and solid senior management (preferably) experience in a reputable Financial Institution.
  • Strong Operations background.
