VP, Commercial Underwriter- Citi Cards
The Credit Risk Officer( Commercial Underwriter) is a strategic professional who stays abreast of developments within own field and contributes to directional strategy by considering their application in own job and the business. Recognized technical authority for an area within the business. Requires basic commercial awareness. There are typically multiple people within the business that provide the same level of subject matter expertise. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers. Significant impact on the area through complex deliverables. Provides advice and counsel related to the technology or operations of the business. Work impacts an entire area, which eventually affects the overall performance and effectiveness of the sub-function/job family.
Responsibilities:
- Performs in-depth financial statement analysis utilizing ratios and trends to underwrite and manage new and existing relationships with exposures >$250,000 in addition to high-risk credits.
- Understanding of various types of business financial statements ranging from internally prepared to audited including Nonprofit and Government entities.
- Integrates in-depth credit operations knowledge with a solid understanding of unsecured commercial lending within various industries.
- Uses judgment to complete complex credit transactions with direct customer interaction including the collection of required supporting documents.
- Oversees credit application process to include credit verification and determination of credit limits. Ability to read, understand and analyze Commercial and Consumer credit reports to make credit decisions.,
- Applies analytical thinking and knowledge of credit analysis tools and methodologies.
- Correspond with various internal and external groups, including Risk, Senior Management and Partners, presents in quarterly reviews and provides timely updates regarding file status.
- May serve on special project teams as assigned.
- Mentor lower level analysts.
- Additional assignments as business needs are identified.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of commercial credit experience with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (Graduate School experience desired).
- Good corporate and credit and exposure analysis skills.
- Previously demonstrated ability to read/review/analyze and spread commercial financial statements, interpret commercial credit bureau reports, analyze trade experience and utilize external financial resources to underwrite commercial credit requests.
- Strong analytical, process and project management skills.
- Strong communication (written and verbal), customer service, multi-tasking skills.
- Proficient phone etiquette, typing, computer proficiency in MS Office.
- Ability to learn and utilize various internal systems.
- Familiar with the application of lending regulations including KYC and FinCEN.
- Prior commercial credit decisions and lending authority desired.
- Previous leadership experience preferred.
Education:
- Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred
